Las Vegas Tourism Information:
Tourism in Las Vegas
The Las
Vegas and Southern Nevada economy is based on tourism. While there have been
many attempts to diversify the local economy, tourism remains as the primary
employer. There are advantages and disadvantages to have an economy based on
visitors. Las Vegas can be affected by things high gas prices and terrorist
acts. While McCarran International Airport has become one of the busiest in the
world, the majority of visitors to Southern Nevada still drive in from
California. This means that if gas prices soar, Las Vegas is affected. For many
months after the 9/11 tragedy in 2001, the hotels in Las Vegas saw a greatly
reduced visitor volume. However, there have been many when the economic base of
Las Vegas has been threatened and each time the city has come back stronger than
before.
