In this panel, located about
halfway into Petroglyph Canyon, the 'desert varnish' or patina is not badly
eroded. Even though the underlying stratigraphy is evident on the surface, the
surface itself is smoothly eroded before the addition of the patina. This makes
the differences in the relative degree of 're-patination' of the rock art
images, possibly an important indicator of the relative age of these images.
