The
Joshua Tree is ubiquitous in the Mojave Desert and throughout the American
Southwest.
The Joshua Tree was so named by Mormons who thought the plant reminded them of
the Biblical Joshua.
In the Mojave Desert this robust plant is found between the elevations of
roughly 2000 to 6000 FASL.
The Joshua Tree can only be pollinated by the Pronuda Moth, sometimes also
called the 'Yucca Moth'.
The scientific name is Yucca brevifolia and is known to have two root systems,
one to absorb water and another apparently to produce rhizomes or bulbs.
