An
'intrusion species' is a non-indigenous, human introduced species successfully
existing in the new environment at the expense of other indigenous species.
A good example of an intrusion species is Saltcedar or Tamarisk. This plant
was introduced into the Colorado Basin in the 19th century and is now a
dominant riparian shrub below 2000 m elevation.
