A Brief History of Henderson
Henderson began its existence as a provider of Magnesium for the war effort during
WWII. With the end of the war Henderson's only product was no longer in high
demand and by 1947 Henderson was in danger of literally becoming 'war surplus'
to be sold off at auction. On April 16 1953, Henderson incorporated with a
population of 7410 and only about 13 square miles in area.
During the 1980's Henderson saw significant growth in its Green Valley area.
That growth continues today in the city that now covers 95 square miles and has
the second largest population in Nevada. There are now several Henderson
hotels in the Green Valley area, the Lake of Las Vegas and throughout
the city. There are also thousands of apartments
in Henderson scattered throughout the city.
