Greeley
Colorado is one of the 'front range cities' located north of
Denver. It is true that Greeley Colorado was inspired by Horace
Greeley. In 1870 he even paid a visit to Greeley which at that time was
the first planned community in Colorado. Greeley was founded in 1870 by
a stock company intent on colonizing the area.
The area around Greeley made such a good impression on Nathan Meeker who
worked for the New York Tribune as its Agriculture Editor, that he moved
there and encourged others to also move there. He started the 'Union
Colony of Colorado' to finance the beginning of Greeley.
In 1886, Greeley was incorporated as a city.
There are 41.8 square miles to Greeley.
In 2002 there were over 70,000 residents in Greeley.
