| Victorville
is called the 'Key City of the High Desert'. It is located between
Barstow and San Bernardino and generally accessed via Interstate 15.
Victorville is a major 'pit stop' city on the I-15 corridor as it is
located about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Victorville is the
anchor community of the Victor Valley which includes up to 300,000
residents. It is named Victorville after Jacob Nash Victor who was a construction superintendent for the California Southern Railroad. History: On January 18, 1886 a town plan was drawn up and 'Victor' was started. In 1901, the named was changed to Victorville because there was another Victor in Colorado. In 1926, Victorville was on Route 66 and this was its main access until Interstate 15 was built. There is now an 'Old Town Victorville' which features small shops, Antiques shops and the Route 66 Museum. Statistics: Victorville was incorporated on September 21, 1962. The elevation is 2,875 FASL.
