| Flagstaff
is the largest city in Northern Arizona and is the seat of Coconino
county. It is strategically located along the old Route 66 at the
intersection of Interstate 17 and Interstate 40. Flagstaff was incorporated as a city in 1928. It had a population of 59,160 in 2002. The city is a bit over 64 suare miles in area. Located at the base of the San Francisco Mountains, Flagstaff is one of the highest elevation cities in North America. With its great scenery, proximity to parks such as the Grand Canyon, and because it is a commercial and governmental center, Flagstaff gets over 5 million visitors a year.
