Burros
When we think of the old west images of the mustang or burro comes to mind. Burros are most often associated with mining in the old west as pack animals.

Since they were no longer of value most were let go. Some escaped. Today they roam they free ranges in small herds.

These self reliant creatures draw huge crowds whenever they appear. They do not seem to mind people. They shy away if you try to get too close. Almost to a person, the visitors to Red Rock are savvy enough with animals in the wild to not attempt to feed them.
The Visitors to Red Rock tend to be particularly considerate and respectful towards these animals. When humans and wild creatures know and respect each others boundaries it is possible to get closer and share in mutual curiosity.

When wild animals know that you are going to respect their boundaries by not advancing towards them, or you do not arouse their suspicions by with quick sudden movements, they will come close to you. If you are patient they will get close enough to make eye contact. When you do that it is hard not to feel that the creature in front of you is just as curious about you as you are about it.
