A great place in Red Rock is Bonnie Springs Ranch, Old Nevada. This is a western themed park which stages old west style gunfights and hangings for visitors. Among its other attractions are a motel, an opera house, a museum, a cemetery, an old western mini-train and horse back riding. You can even throw a high class wedding here. The chapel is designed to look like something from the old west. Old Nevada is open daily from 10:30 to 6:00.For more information call 702.875.4191.The horseback riding is a really cool experience. The atmosphere is western.  When we were there last is was something like $20.00 an hour. Whatever it is, it's a great ride. The horses are magnificently trained and are really perfect.

The staff is really competent and familiar with the terrain and the animals. The 1 hour ride is reasonably short but long enough to really enjoy. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. If the children are too small they will not get to ride.

The horse path takes you along a wash, near the Wilson Cliff and along several paths.
The horse rides make this is one of the best attractions in Southern Nevada. You do not need to know how to ride or have any experience. Horse used to make me nervous. These horses actually seem to have a 'professionalism' about them which is very reassuring.

They have a restaurant located in what looks like an actual ranch house. The menu includes the standard stuff. While the chicken fingers are nothing to yell about, the food is average. For restaurants in these Spring Mountains, average is really outstanding. After this, I'll need a disguise, but I will eat there again. What really kicks it off at this place is the atmosphere. At the bar they have all the one dollar bills hanging there which their customers have put up over time. I forgot what that was about, but I'm sure there was a point to it. This place will actually give you a sense of what it might have been like in the late 19th century West.

The other side of the facility houses a very authentic looking restoration of a 19th century Western town. They stage gunfights there and they can even do weddings.

There is also a very large petting zoo here. The animals are kept in aviaries and pens. The selection of animals is enough to make it interesting. The pens are clean and the animals seem to be very well kept. Kids always love this stuff.

Be prepared to spend time and money here. It's a great place to take kids of any age for that 'old west' experience.
